Kentucky History

* Kentucky was the first region west of the Allegheny mountains to be settled by American pioneers and the first village built in Kentucky was on the banks of the Ohio River, across from what is now Portsmouth, Ohio, approximately in 1756. The village existed for 20 years and most of the dwellings were log cabins. The first settlement was in Harrodsburg, in June 1774.
